Efficient eating machines that are unbearable.
Rasva-Ursa (often shortened to just “Rasva”) are enormous, gluttonous ursids that roam both coast and forest with little regard for what gets in their way. Driven by a stomach that cares more than their brain ever could, they’ll investigate anything remotely edible: clams, mussels, deer, lapines, even other Rasva. Nothing is sacred, and everything is considered a snack.
Freshly deceased Rasva are highly prized for their bile, which can be used to treat fever, inflammation, swelling, pain, liver disease, and gallstones. Their stomach acid rivals even Atalav’s hardiest scavengers - easily breaking down bone, shell, and sometimes even metal.
It is extremely taboo to have a Ravsa as a companion due to beliefs that Rasva are too wild and too gluttonous to bond like a typical companion. Their instinct is so deeply entangled with hunger and dominance that it cannot align with the gentler companionship most faunids seek. Any “taming” would require instinctual suppression akin to neglect. The only morally sound form of coexistence occurs in isolated arctic regions, where a Rasva may tolerate the consistent presence of a single Faun over many seasons. In such rare instances, it is understood that the Faun lives more in service to the Rasva’s rhythms than the reverse. These relationships are not considered true companionships but rather mutual tolerances forged in solitude and survival.
